Today's Times contains an article on the clash between the karooni Company and the American Federal Wireless Company in

wireless matters in China. As there may be some stir about this

A BUMATY of the position may be useful.

1. In August, 1918, the Marconi Company signed an Agrement

with the Chinese Government for the supply of 200 sets of wireless

telephones, The Company lent the Government £600,000 of which

£300,000 was actual purchase price, the residue being for the

erection of the sate. (In point of fact we have always known

that is was the price paid to the Government for giving the

Company the contract: in fact the price for establishing British

wireless predominance in China),

The Government undertook that until the loan was repaid

they would exclusively adopt the Marconi system of wirel oss

telephony, and they further bound themselves "in the event of

the Government deciding to establish a repair shop or factory for

the maintenance of wireless installations in China, or for the manu➡

facture of wireless apparatus, the Goverment will first open

discussions with the Company with a view of arranging joint

operation of such factory by the Government and the Company"

2. Arising out of this article, the Chinese Government on May 24th, 1919, signed a subsequent agreement with the Marconi

Company for the form: tion of the "Chinese National Wireless Telegraph Company" a joint concern between the Chinese Government

and the Marconi Company. The object of the Company was "the

manufacture of wirelous telegraph and telephone apparatus, materials and supplies, and to repair and maintain wireless installations now

existing and hereafter established, but nothing in this agreement
